Hi Donald and Patricia, I have recently discovered your most interesting website . I am putting together a small collection of medicine spoons and have purchased latterly a few dose glasses. The latter were/are obviously much easier for dispensing medicine than spoons ! Clearly in the U.S.A. there is great scope for collecting glasses and your website provides a great framework around which to collect. I have no thoughts of starting such a glass collection, the range is so vast and it would be impossible from the U.K.. I am however interested in the fact that in building your collection you are establishing a list of drug stores and individuals who sold or gave away complimentary medicine dispensers. I have recently acquired a spoon marked "Compliments Van Fleet Mansfield Drug Co. Memphis". On the handle there is a patent number together with "1881R Rogers R A1".Does this ring a bell? I would be interested to hear from you. Regards. Graham Smith "South Wing"
I came across your website while doing genealogy research on my Great-grandfather, Cornelius Beukma. My research and family records show he was born June 30, 1854 and was a Pharmacist in Denver, CO. during the late 1800’s (I have data that shows him as a Pharmacist as late as 1893). Anyway, I found it very interesting that an item such as a dose cup would exist with my gg-father’s name on it. I always knew he came from a prominent family, but I didn’t realize something such as this might exist. Obviously, I would be very interested in locating one of the cups with his name on it. If you can give me any assistance in finding a cup that I could purchase I would be much appreciated. Cornelius Beukma Pharmacist Denver {small} Thanks much, Robert Browning
| Dear Sir: While browsing the internet tonight, I was so excited to see that you have a dose cup in your collection which was from my Great Grandfather's apothecary shop. H. Fred Oehlschlaeger was a druggist in downtown Cincinnati, and lived only another two years after this cup was made. He was experimenting, as druggists did, with chemicals in his basement and began an explosion which killed him. My great-grandmother, widowed, lived on the kindness of her relatives and eventually died in the county hospital with severe depression. My grandfather H. Fred Oehlschlaeger, ten at the time of his father's death, lived until 1970, my father H. Fred Oehlschlaeger, born 1918, lived until 2005. My brother, the last of the H. Fred Oehlschlaeger's,now goes by Fritz Oehlschlaeger and lives in Virginia. I would be grateful for any information you can give me about the cup and whether you might be able to direct me to a place where I could watch for another one. (I do understand that this is your own collection (online)). However, if you should ever consider selling the dose cup, I would be interested in purchasing it. If not, please forgive the intrusion. I don't know whether you care about the history of your pieces, but...in case you do, I thought you might be interested in this story. I can provide you with other details if you would like. H. | Hello! I stumbled onto your website when I Google searched my great-grandfather who was a druggist in Cairo, Illinois. What an interesting collection you have! I am very excited to see that you have listed a dose cup from his drug store, Schuh’s Drug Store. I had no idea that such a thing even existed. Do you have this cup in your collection? Would you be willing to sell it? I would LOVE to give it to my mother for Christmas. She is now 84 years old and has so many fond memories of her after school visits to the soda fountain at her grandfather’s drug store. I know it would mean so much to her. Schuh's Drug Store Cairo Il {silk screned} I look forward to hearing from you! Best Regards, Susan Graby, Bellevue, Washington grabys.4@earthlink.net |
Hi. My name is Lisa and this morning I ran across the only instance I have ever found on the Internet (after searching for 5 years) to the name: "Huntley Bros. Co" on your website. It was listed among your Oregon dose cup listings - which makes perfect sense. Prior the turn of the 20th century, there was a well-known resort area that was built around a natural soda spring, just a few miles south of the town of Molalla, Oregon. The resort was called Wilhoit Springs and was a favorite vacation destination for the wealthy. The resort was destroyed by fire and rebuilt, then destroyed by fire just a few years later and is now a small park area that has been pretty much abandoned. It was during an outing there one day, when I found an old medicine bottle in a small creek near a trail. It is embossed with the words: "Huntley Bros Co" and until today, I had no idea where it came from originally. Apparently, it didn't travel very far. The place where I found it is only about 23 - 25 miles from the drug store in Oregon City that dispensed it! Thank you so much! I have yet to find any collector with a website, who references this bottle at all. Now that I know where it came from, at least I can inquire with collectors in the area. If it wasn't for your extensive dose cup listing, I never would have known where to begin. I don't live in that area anymore, but I still have the bottle and it is still in very good condition as far as I can tell from what I have read about condition ratings. I need to take photos of it soon and will probably sell it when I know what it is worth. If you are interested, feel free to email me and I will send you some pictures. Again - I truly appreciate the work you put into your listing. Regards, Lisa Williams

Hello, I'm interested in finding out information about this dose cup. I saw it listed in the Washington section but didn't see a picture anywhere although I could have overlooked it. I'm wondering if you have a picture you could send me and if it's for sale and if so, what the price would be. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated! E.L. Smalley was my great great grandpa and my family doesn't have much from the store. Thanks! Jaime Smalley
Hello, I just stumbled upon your collection and website. As the great, great, grandson of Ambrose Mueller, of Webster Groves, MO., I would be very interested in seeing the example in your collection and whether any materials from his pharmacy may be available for purchase. Thank you in advance for your time. Sincerely, Jeff Browndyke
My great grand-father was a druggist in Hot Springs Arkansas in the early 1880's. He worked at the Pollard & Jennings Live And Let Live Drug Store Hot Springs Ark. I am trying to find any medicine bottles from that store, in that era. Can you help me? Roy Rowlett
Aloha, When doing a random search online for any artifacts from my Great, great, grandfather and Great, great, great uncles pharmacy I came upon your site. I note that you have a dose glass from "C. D. DOws of Boston Mass." This is actually a G. D. Dows (Gustavus D. Dows) dose glass from my ancestors' pharmacy. I do not collect dose glasses so I do not have anything to trade but I wondered if you would consider parting with this one. My family has much written and spoken history of our family but only one bottle from the pharmacy. If you would consider selling this dose glass please email me. Or, if you know where I might find another that would be great. Thank you, Lynley Dows
