Take the loveliest stretch of the Middle Mosel, where the river has cut deep and sharp into the
northern bank so that the town on the shore is nestled in the mountain wall yet gazes out on an open
opposite shore admitting the sun. Add one incredible castle with a dozen towers overlooking the scene.
Surround yourself with a dozen wonderful Riesling vineyards up- and downstream, and savor the
hundreds of quaint shops and homes that give the place a picture-book perfection — and you have
Cochem!
Aside from all of its own charms, Cochem is a great vantage point to visit all tourist attractions in the
Eifel. Being centrally located, Cochem is minutes from the Nürburgring for car-racing fans. It is less than
an hour from historic Trier and the French and Luxemburg borders as well as the Deutsches eck where
the Mosel enters the mighty Rhine. Also an hour away is Idar-Oberstein, headquarters of Germany's semi-
precious stone and jewelry industry. Bonn, Cologne and Frankfurt are likewise about an hour away,
making Cochem easily accessible for day trips, weekends and vacations. Cochem's a great place to begin
or conclude a trip to Germany!
