Subject: Ambrose Mueller Pharmacy Materials
Hello,
I just stumbled upon your collection and website.  As the great, great, grandson of Ambrose Mueller, of Webster Groves, MO., I would
be very interested in seeing the example in your collection and whether any materials from his pharmacy may be available for
purchase.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Sincerely,
Jeff Browndyke
Jeff I do not own the Ambrose Mueller dose cup at this time but I have attatched a picture for you. If I ever get the chance to
purchase one I will contact you as I have done this for many others in the past. I would like an address in case your email address
should change.

Thank you for posting the 1900 census information.  I did not have that.  My grandmother was Dorothy A.; Ambrose's youngest child.
I never got to know her as she dies about 3 years before my birth, but I do have some paintings of her's and her diary that I look upon
fondly.

Warm regards,
Jeff

This is wonderful.  You have been so helpful with not only the cup, but this valuable family information.  I plan on contacting the
person who constructed the data for the RootsWeb site for more detail on Ambrose.

I'm sending out payment today.  Hopefully you will get it by the end of the week.

Warm regards,
Jeff

1880 Federal Census
Nick Browndike (spelled Browndike on Census, not Browndyke) is listed as a Laborer in St. Louis County,  St. Louis, Missouri.  He
gave his age at the time as 32 years of age (born 1848).  Living with him on Rosswell Ave. was his wife Julia 21, and a son William (4
months) (Missouri).  Nick indicated he was born in Prussia, and his parents were also both born in Prussia.  Julia indicated she was
born in Missouri, her father was born in Virginia, and her mother was born in Canada.   This has to be the same Julia, but the ages
given for Julia don't match with the 1900 census (see below).
1900 Federal Census
Joseph Browndyke is listed as the step son of Henry and Julia A. Dains.  He is listed as a Day Laborer in St. Louis County, 11th Ward
of St. Louis, Missouri.  He gave his age at the time as 19 years of age.  He was born October 1881 in Missouri.  According to the
census information his father was born in Germany, and his mother (Julia) was born in Missouri.   He also was accompanied by a
sister Lillie M. Browndyke 15 (June 1885) (Missouri).  Henry and Julia had been married 8 years, and had seven children of which only
four were still living.   Julia obviously remarried Henry Dains after the death of Nick Browndike.  William listed in 1880 did not show up
in 1900, so he may have been deceased.

The other family members living on Broadway were:

Henry Dains (39) (Sept 1870) (Illinois) - listed as an Insurance Collector
Julia A. Dains (35) (June 1864) (Missouri) - father born in Virginia, and mother born in Canada
William H. Dains (6) (Dec 1894) (Illinois)
Alice Dains (2) (Nov 1897) (Illinois
1910 Federal Census
Joseph N. Browndyke is listed as a Commercial Traveller / Merchandise in St. Louis County, 13th Ward of St. Louis, Missouri.  He
gave his age at the time as 28 years of age.  Living with him on Wyoming Street were his wife of four years Clara (24) (Missouri), a
daughter Thelma C. (3) (Missouri), and a daughter No Name (less than one month old) (Missouri).  On this census Joseph indicates
that his father was born in Holland  and spoke Dutch, and his mother was born in Missouri.  Clara indicates that both her parents are
from Sweden / Swedish.
1920 Federal Census
Joseph N. Browndyke is listed as a Salesman / Wholesale Merchandise in St. Louis County, Fourth Ward / Webster Groves, Missouri.
He gave his age at the time as 38 years of age.  Living with him on Fairview was his wife Clara (33), a daughter Thelma (13), a
daughter Helen (10), and a son Joseph (8).
On this census he indicated that his father was born in Holland and spoke Dutch, and his mother was born in Missouri.

The Historical Atlas of Europe Modern 1850  - Nick was born in 1848, and it looks like Prussia and the Netherlands are separate, etc.
Perhaps there was a reason to say he was Dutch rather than German.  One can only guess at this.  Since his father died when he
was a young man, he may have lost track of the true details of his parentage.   Ancestry.com may have further details - you can use
this service at your local public library in most cases - I cannot access this from home without paying a steep fee.

A search of Death notices from the St. Louis Post Dispatch shows Nicholas Browndyke 12/15/1891 and Joan Browndyke 12/17/1891
(might have been one of the deceased children???)
